What We Do

At the Imogen Foundation, we give young people space in which to shine, so that they can become their own best support systems–networks of friends with the ability to listen deeply to one another, and affirm each other’s unique value.

The Imogen Foundation offers children and teens the gift of a stage–space in which to express oneself and hear others. By creating spaces in which students can explore music, drama, sports, and STEM studies, the Imogen Foundation helps children and teens connect with each other and the adults in their lives.

Given the opportunity to engage with others through their words, their bodies, and their shared activity, students form a widening safety net for one another, in which everyone can share in the vital feeling of being valued and the knowledge that they matter.

Why We Do It

In 2018, Imogen Roche passed away suddenly at 15 years of age.

She left behind a community of grieving friends, who struggled with the loss of one of the best listeners in their lives.

Imogen had been the shoulder to cry on, the ear that listened, and the calming voice on the other end of the phone that let her friends know that it’s OK not to feel OK. Her absence created a profound void in the lives of dozens of teenagers.

Imogen’s father, Theseus Roche, created the Imogen Foundation (IF) to help these teenagers connect with, support, and listen to one another, as Imogen had once done for them. As IF continues to grow, we are fostering spaces where ever-increasing numbers of young people can discover their own capacity to be in transformative community with each other.
